I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten¹, not made, consubstantial² with the Father; through him all things were made. For us³ and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate⁴ of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic⁵ and apostolic⁶ Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

¹ This means that the Son comes from the Father by nature and not by choice. A good example of this is the relationship between fire and light. If I light a match, the fire and light appear at the same time. The fire doesn’t think “I should make light.” Instead, fire gives light because of what it is. In the same way, the Father shares His life with the Son because of who the Father is, not because of a decision to make the Son.

² This means that Father and Son are one being (along with the Holy Spirit). Another way to put this is that they share one life. The Father shares His life with the Son in the Holy Spirit. This is how we believe in 3 distinct persons but only one God.

³ We believe Jesus died for all people.

⁴ This is a fancy word for saying that God the Son took on a body. He has always been God but became human in a certain point in history.

⁵ The word “catholic” means “for everybody.” The Church is for all people, all cultures, and all times. It does not refer to the Roman Catholic church.

⁶ This refers to the belief that the church is based on the testimony and authority of the apostles, who lived with Jesus and testified to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. In a secondary sense, apostolicity refers to the charge that Church is sent into the world to continue to testify.

Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, Creador del cielo y de la tierra, de todo lo visible y lo invisible.

Creo en un solo Señor, Jesucristo, Hijo único de Dios, nacido del Padre antes de todos los siglos: Dios de Dios, Luz de Luz, Dios verdadero de Dios verdadero, engendrado¹, no creado, de la misma naturaleza² del Padre, por quien todo fue hecho; que por nosotros³ y por nuestra salvación bajó del cielo, y por obra del Espíritu Santo se encarnó⁴ de María, la Virgen, y se hizo hombre; y por nuestra causa fue crucificado en tiempos de Poncio Pilato; padeció y fue sepultado, y resucitó al tercer día, según las Escrituras, y subió al cielo, y está sentado a la derecha del Padre; y de nuevo vendrá con gloria para juzgar a vivos y muertos, y su reino no tendrá fin.

¹ Esto significa que el Hijo procede del Padre por naturaleza y no por elección. Un buen ejemplo de esto es la relación entre el fuego y la luz. Si enciendo una cerilla, el fuego y la luz aparecen al mismo tiempo. El fuego no piensa «debería crear luz». En su lugar, el fuego da luz por lo que es. De la misma manera, el Padre comparte su vida con el Hijo por lo que el Padre es, no por una decisión de crear al Hijo.

² Esto significa que el Padre y el Hijo son un solo ser (junto con el Espíritu Santo). Otra forma de decirlo es que comparten una misma vida. El Padre comparte su vida con el Hijo en el Espíritu Santo. Así es como creemos en 3 personas distintas, pero en un solo Dios.

³ Creemos que Jesús murió por todas las personas.

⁴ Esta es una palabra distinguida para decir que Dios el Hijo tomó un cuerpo. Él siempre ha sido Dios, pero se hizo humano en un momento determinado de la historia.

⁶ این امر به این باور اشاره دارد که کلیسا بر پایه شهادت و اقتدار رسولانی (فرستادگانی) بنا شده است که با عیسی زندگی کردند و به زندگی، مرگ و رستاخیز او شهادت دادند. در معنای ثانویه، رسولی بودن به ماموریتی اشاره دارد که کلیسا به جهان فرستاده می‌شود تا به شهادت دادن ادامه دهد.

Namwamini Roho Mtakatifu, Bwana na mpaji wa uzima, atokaye kwa Baba, anayeabudiwa na kutukuzwa pamoja na Baba na Mwana, aliyenena kwa vinywa vya manabii.

Namwamini Kanisa moja, takatifu, la kikatoliki⁵ na la mitume⁶. Nakiri ubatizo mmoja kwa ondoleo la dhambi. Natazamia ufufuko wa wafu na uzima wa ulimwengu ujao.

¹ Hii ina maana kwamba Mwana anatoka kwa Baba kwa asili na si kwa hiari au uchaguzi. Mfano mzuri wa hili ni uhusiano kati ya moto na mwanga. Nikipiga kibiti, moto na mwanga huonekana wakati ule ule. Moto hauwazi «nipaswa kutengeneza mwanga». Badala yake, moto hutoa mwanga kwa sababu ya jinsi ulivyo. Vivyo hivyo, Baba hushiriki uzima wake na Mwana kwa sababu ya jinsi Baba alivyo, si kwa sababu ya uamuzi wa kumfanya Mwana.

⁴ Hili ni neno rasmi la kusema kwamba Mungu Mwana alitwaa mwili wa kibinadamu. Yeye amekuwa Mungu siku zote lakini alikuwa mwanadamu katika wakati fulani maalum katika historia.

⁵ Neno «kikatoliki» lina maana ya «kwa ajili ya wote». Kanisa ni kwa ajili ya watu wote, utamaduni wote, na nyakati zote. Halirejelei tu Kanisa Katoliki la Roma.
